Service NSW is a whole of New South Wales Government service access point that provides more than 800 types of services, both online and in-person, to residents and visitors across more than 100 offices throughout the state.
ND&Co are also one of the longest serving vendors of Service NSW delivering multiple projects and support services even before Service NSW opened their doors for their very first day of operation.
The challenge for our client
Service NSW approached us to deliver its requirement of utilising disk encryption technologies to protect data on its desktop and laptop fleet to ensure compliance with the Australian Security Directorate (ASD) standards.
First, we designed and deployed the Microsoft BitLocker disk encryption solution, upgrading Service NSW’s desktop and laptop management platform to the latest Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) Current Branch release. We also designed and developed Service NSW’s Windows 10 SOE, incorporating BitLocker disk encryption at build time, as well as implementing the monthly security update schedules from Windows 10. The same system also acts to protect the legacy Windows 8.1 operating systems.
To track the compliance of the operating systems’ security updates, we integrated Service NSW’s Microsoft SCCM management platform into its ITSM platform ServiceNow, incorporating dashboards to allow management and security staff to quickly and accurately view the system’s compliance status at any given time.
Outcomes for our client
Data for the entire Service NSW laptop fleet has now been secured. The implementation of Microsoft BitLocker local disk encryption ensures the full security of all data in the event of any device loss or theft. Equally important, Service NSW is now fully compliant with ASD guidelines for data security of end user devices and additionally benefits from the compliance transparency that the newly incorporated dashboards provide.
